The PIC microcontroller is chosen simply for its ease of use, especially the fact that there are only 35 instructions to learn. The specific PIC that we have used, PIC16F877 is only chosen for its popularity. The control of the wheels using other microcontrollers is also possible. The two wheels of the chair are connected to independent stepper motor circuits.
